2024-2025 Flu Season

Anyone can catch the flu. Protect yourself – and others – by learning about the virus and recognizing the symptoms.

Now more than ever it is important to get your flu shot.

Flu shots are available in the community from participating health care providers and pharmacies for seniors and those at higher risk of complications from the flu.

Please visit the Timiskaming Health Unit's website for more information on where you can get your flu shot.

If you are a patient with the Great Northern Family Health Team, you can book an appointment for your flu shot by calling 705-647-6100, press 2

The Great Northern Family Health Team is also offering influenza "Flu" vaccine clinics for individuals aged 65 and older in the coming weeks. To schedule your appointment, please call our office at 705-647-6100.

The flu shot is your best defense!

This year’s flu season is taking place at the same time as COVID-19. Don’t take any unnecessary risks with your health. Get the flu shot as early in the season as possible.

The flu shot is recommended for everyone 6 months old and older. It is:

  • safe (including for kids and if you are pregnant or breastfeeding)

  • free

  • available from your doctor or nurse practitioner, and at participating pharmacies and local public health units across the province

  • proven to reduce the number of doctor visits, hospitalizations and deaths related to the flu

  • different each year because the virus changes frequently – so you need to get it every fall

If you think that you might have the flu you should stay home and self-isolate.

You can visit Health Connect Ontario or call 811 to talk to a registered nurse 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You do not need to provide your OHIP number and all information is confidential.
