Mental Health
The Great Northern Family Health Team provides mental health support for individuals aged 16 and up who live with a mild to moderate mental health condition, including: assessment & diagnosis, treatment recommendations, medication management and follow up, as well as counselling.
Our Mental Health Team will work with you in a short-term, focused, and confidential manner to support, educate and motivate individuals towards developing goals and skills that will support their mental and emotional well-being.
This includes: individual counselling/treatment; individual sessions on recovery, self-management of symptoms; a treatment plan and goals in partnership with patients.
Accessing our Short-Term Counselling Services:
The Great Northern Family Health Team does not provide crisis services. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis, please contact the Canadian Mental Health Association: Cochrane-Timiskaming at 705-647-4444 or visit your nearest Emergency Department.

Once a referral is received or if you contact our office directly, we will schedule an Intake Consultation appointment. Physician referral is no longer required.

Intake Appointment:​​​
The appointment is a 30-minute screening appointment to assess your primary concern and identify which resources best meet your current needs and make referrals as deemed appropriate, while also ensuring your needs can be addressed within our scope of practice. This is not a counselling appointment. The wait time after this appointment is based on urgency of need.

The length and type of counselling services provided will depend on the nature of the presenting issue, however typically a maximum of 8 sessions. We may also refer you to other community resources where appropriate.
